Cost

The following schedule has been drawn up to give prospective and current parents adequate information of proposed fee increases, which are always kept as low as possible, while constantly trying to improve the quality and standard of education, we are known for. Fees will be paid twice a year (per semester) in August and January.


Please note that fees quoted in this schedule are subject to change(s).

Tuition and boarding fees cover all educational and boarding materials, including textbooks, stationery, cutlery, feeding, excursions etc.

*Admission Fee: This is paid once only by new students.

3 tops (shirts/blouses), 2 bottoms (trousers/skirts) and 1 set of sports outfit

Girls - GH¢ 410.00

Boys - GH¢ 410.00

Bedding

2 bed sheets, 2 bed covers, 2 pillowcases, and 1pillow

Girls -  GH¢ 310.00

Boys - GH¢ 310.00

**Bills for new students will include the cost of uniforms and bedding. Continuing students will be billed when they request for replacement or additional uniforms and bedding.

Calculators

Scientific Calculator (for IGCSE students) - GH¢105.00

Graphic Display Calculator (for all IB students) - GH¢525.00

There are no “levies”, PTA dues or other extra charges, although parents are billed for medicals, lost or damaged books and damage to school property.

 

Pocket Money

Suggested pocket money per month (supplied by parents directly to their wards):

External Examination Fees – these fees are at the discretion of the Examination Boards and may change on an annual basis. They are payable in the currencies quoted since they go directly to the relevant institutions abroad.

Please note that parents are billed for the above fees at the end of 1st Semester of IG2 for payment in January (the second semester of IG2).

 

International Baccalaureate Diploma Program (IBDP)

Payable to International Baccalaureate Organisation (IBO)

IB Diploma subscription fee $127.00
Registration fee per candidate $172.00
Registration fee for 6 subjects $714.00 ($119.00/subject)
TOTAL PAYABLE: $1, 013.00

Includes Handling/courier charges  -  GH¢168.00

Please note that the College pre-pays the above fees in November (first semester of IB2) and bills parents in December, for payment in January (the second semester of IB DP2).

Optional Tests and Exams

(For students desiring to attend US & Canadian universities)

SAT, SAT Subject Test, ACT & TOEFL

Students in IB1 and IB2 may sit for the SAT, SAT Subject Test, ACT or TOEFL for entry into USA universities with a written approval from their parents. These fees will be included in the students’ end of semester bill.

Conditions

  1. All fees are payable by bankdraft.
  2. Tuition and boarding fees should be paid at least one week before the re- opening date and a receipt and chit obtained before students can be admitted into the hostels.
  3. A facility exists for a small number of installment payments, but this MUST be negotiated and agreed with the Principal by the end of the previous semester.
  4. A surcharge of 10% will be levied on unpaid fees for each month of delay beyond the agreed dates.This clause will be strictly enforced.

NB:

Semester fees cover only the running costs of the College. SOS-KDI totally funds Investments, major repairs, vehicles, replacement of capital items, significant proportion of personnel costs, construction and any major purchases, especially those which require importation from abroad.

Apply for IB MYP

Apply for IB Middle Years Programme (IB MYP)

Applicants in grade 9, JHS 3 or its equivalent are eligible to apply for admission into our two-year IB MYP programme. Admission is highly competitive and is based on an entrance examination and subsequent interview for shortlisted applicants. Priority is given to qualified students from SOS Children’s Villages across Africa.

Application for the 2019/2020 academic year will be opened from 2nd January, 2019 to 29th March,2019. Once the application process is opened you will see a link on our homepage. Applicants from SOS Children’s Villages

Admission process for applicants from SOS Children’s Villages is as follows:

  1. 10/01/2018: Recruitment letter sent to SOS Children’s Villages from SOS-HGIC
  2. 10/03/2018: Application materials to be submitted/uploaded includes:
    • Completed Application Forms
    • School reports from previous 2 years (6 terms)
    • 1 passport photograph
    • Copy of birth certificate
  3. 25/03/2018- 27/04/2018: Recruitment team to SOS Children’s Villages in Africa to administer Entrance Examinations and Interviews
  4. Notification of Admission decisions are made in May
  5. 7/7/ 2018 – 11/08/2018: Intensive Summer Programme for students from SOS Children’s Village.
  6. 12/08/2018 August: Academic year begins.

Applicants from Schools in Ghana and Abroad

Admission process for all other applicants is as follows:

  1. 02/01/2018 – 31/03/2018: Online application available
  2. Completed application must include upload of the following:
    • School Terminal Reports for the previous 2 years (6 terms)
    • 1 current passport size photograph
    • Copy of birth certificate or detailed passport page
    • Proof of payment of application fee (can be done online)
  3. 29/04/2018: Entrance Examination at SOS-HGIC for all local applicants. (Arrangements could be made with the consent of the Principal of SOS-HGIC and host school, to send Entrance tests abroad for foreign applicants.)
  4. 18/05/2018 and 19/5/2018: Interviews for shortlisted candidates based on entrance examination performance. (Opportunity will be given to unsuccessful candidates to review their test papers in the first week after the release of the results)
  5. 06/06/2018: Notification of Admission and New Parent’s & Student Orientation
  6. 12/08/2018: Academic year begins

Apply for IB DP

Apply for IB Diploma Programme (IB DP)

In view of the fact that the majority of places in the Diploma Programme (DP) class will be taken by continuing SOS-HGIC students, limited places are usually available for new applicants. Admission into the IB programme at SOS-HGIC is therefore competitive and based solely on performance in the MYP, IGCSE or GCE “O” Level and an entrance interview.

IB applicants from SOS children’s villages, including SOS-Ethiopia (IGCSE Centre, Awassa), are advised to apply as early as possible according to the timeline below:

  1. Early March: Complete the online application or download application form/package sent from SOS-HGIC.
  2. End of March: Application process to be completed by submitting the following:
    • Completed Application Form
    • School report from previous 2 years (4 terms)
    • Confidential predicted grades
    • IB Higher Level and Standard Level course selection
    • A 400-word personal essay on the Applicant's future aspirations as an IB student of SOS-HGIC
    • 1 passport photograph
    • Recommendation from current Head of School
    • Recommendation from a current Teacher
  3. Late March - April: Interviews at SOS Children’s’ Village during annual recruitment exercise
  4. Early August: Provisional admissions confirmation sent to the villages upon receipt of official IGCSE exam results
  5. Late August: Academic year begins for IB1 students

Applicants from schools that offer MYP, IGCSE, GCSE, GCE ‘O’-Level

  1. Early March: Online application process begins
  2. Late May: Application to be completed and submitted with the following:
    • School report from previous 2 years (past 4 terms)
    • Confidential predicted grades
    • IB DP Higher Level and Standard Level course selection
    • A 400-word personal essay on the Applicant's future aspirations as an IB student of SOS-HGIC
    • 1 passport photograph
    • Copy of birth certificate or detailed passport page
    • Recommendation from current Head of School
    • Recommendation from a current Teacher
    • Proof of payment of application fee (subject to change each year)
  3. Mid-August: Interviews for selected candidates
  4. Late August: Admissions confirmation sent
  5. Late August: Academic year begins for IB1 students

Continuing SOS-HGIC Students

Continuing SOS-HGIC students who meet the minimum IB admission requirement will graduate automatically into the IB programme.
