Information about Admissions to SOS-HGIC

SOS-HGIC was set up to educate the brightest and the best children from the SOS Children’s villages across Africa alongside their Ghanaian counterparts in the host country.

Admission into SOS-HGIC is based on highly selective criteria.  Students who gain admission to SOS-HGIC must:

Therefore, the entrance examination for admission into DP1 will be written and computer-based. Students who intend to apply must bear this in mind when preparing for the entrance exam.

The Process:

  1. Applicants register online for the entrance examination
  2. Applicants who pass the entrance examination are invited for the admission interview
  3. Successful applicants will meet members of the Senior Leadership Team with their parents and must agree to our code of conduct where they commit to sign up to our mission, vision and philosophy before offer letters are issued’

The IB Diploma Programme

SOS-HGIC was the first school in Ghana to offer IB Diploma Programme (DP) 25 years ago and we have enjoyed excellent results to date.  Prior to offering the MYP We have always used IGCSE results as a selection tool for direct entry candidates into the IB Diploma programme as a first step  followed by an entrance interview which candidates must pass.  However, now that we are an MYP authorised school we have a four-year continuum and all our MYP students are expected to progress into the DP. As a result, we have very few students leaving us at the end of the MYP and may have very limited spaces for direct entry into the diploma programme. It is possible that in some years there will be no places and we will not open up the admissions process. We will indicate on our website as soon as we know whether vacancies will open up.

Due to the circumstances explained above we are revising our direct entry requirements. We will use an entrance exam to recruit the direct entry students. This would be followed by an entrance interview which the student must pass.

The assessment will focus on standards in Numeracy, Literacy and critical thinking designed for children who are at least 16 years old and have completed five years full-time formal education.
