Akofa Kuenyehia Bentsi-Enchill — Profile

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Akofa Kuenyehia Bentsi-Enchill is the Co-Founder and Executive Director of the Akua Kuenyehia Foundation (AKF). With over 14 years of empowerment experience, she has been at the forefront of designing and implementing programs that equip underprivileged girls in Ghana with leadership, life skills, and professional development opportunities.

Her journey is a testament to her unwavering commitment to social change, marked by a bold decision to leave a thriving career in finance to pursue her passion for empowering the next generation.

Before taking on the role of Executive Director of AKF in 2012, Akofa had already built an impressive career. A first-class honours graduate in Biochemistry from the University of Kent and a holder of a master’s degree in management from the London School of Economics, she spent a decade in the finance industry at Barclays Bank UK and Ghana, where she excelled in various leadership roles.

Her outstanding contributions were recognized with the National Mentoring Consortium Ethnic Minority Mentor of the Year Award, underscoring her innate ability to inspire and guide others.

However, Akofa’s true calling lay beyond the corporate world. In 2012, she made a decisive and courageous move, resigning from a position of financial comfort to take the helm of AKF—then a nonprofit organization still in its formative stages.

This bold step was driven by her deep-seated passion for creating opportunities for underprivileged girls and her belief in the transformative power of education and empowerment. Her decision to transition from a lucrative finance career to the uncertain terrain of nonprofit leadership stands as a defining moment, highlighting her dedication to making a lasting impact on society.

As Executive Director, she spearheads groundbreaking initiatives that empower young women with the tools, skills, and opportunities needed to excel in a rapidly evolving world. Under her visionary leadership, AKF has become a beacon of hope for young women across Ghana.

To date, AKF’s flagship programs have impacted over 1,000 girls. Her ability to forge strategic, high-impact partnerships has been instrumental in scaling AKF’s reach. Through her work, Akofa continues to inspire, innovate, and ignite hope for a brighter future for Africa’s youth.
