Knowledge in the Service of Africa

Graduation, Speech and Prize-Giving Ceremony 2015

The SOS-Hermann Gmeiner International College was founded in 1990 by SOS-Kinderdorf International, as an institution of academic excellence for SOS children from all over Africa and non-SOS children from all walks of life. It provides opportunity for young Africans to learn to live together; and to achieve the understanding and unity badly needed on the continent. On 5th November 2015, the school will be 25 years old.

Since its inception, the school has pursued it’s mission with conviction and fervour and inculcated in its students the spirit of Pan-Africanism and the belief that African Unity can be pursued through compassion for the needy and the acquisition of relevant knowledge and skills required to serve one’s country and continent. Thus the school’s motto, “Knowledge in the Service of Africa” has become a beacon that draws its Pan–African Alumni to their Alma Mater and to each other and is fast becoming a Pan African Students Union.

For us in SOS-Hermann Gmeiner International College (SOS-HGIC), this 25th Anniversary Graduation, Speech and Prize-Giving Ceremony 2015 is a great occasion and we would want to share our experiences with all the countries that have entrusted their young ones to us and so we shall host visitors from several African countries. The Honorary President of SOS Kinderdorf International, who is the founder and patron of the school, Mr. Helmut Kutin, will be a special Guest of Honor. Also present will be the current President of SOS Kinderdorf International, Mr. Siddhartha Kaul accompanied by a team from Innsbruck, Austria. Our parents, well wishers, and there are many, and our Alumni both home and abroad are also expected to be present for the occasion. We plan to have an unforgettable reunion.

Principal's Welcome Message

I welcome you to our website, a window into our vibrant multicultural community. In SOS-Hermann Gmeiner International College, students and teachers engage in the quest for knowledge, skills, attitudes and understanding that will prepare our students to live and thrive in an increasingly uncertain world. We empower our students to make the difficult choices they will face in life, here in school and beyond.

Our SOS-HGIC staff work hard to make our core values a part of everything we do. We give academic success and transition to university undivided attention. Our rich extra-curricular programmes constitute a strong complement to our academic endeavours. Our boarding environment provides students the opportunity to live in a multicultural setting where they learn to appreciate their own cultural heritage while respecting those of others. A wide variety of activities are provided for all students to develop their talents and abilities and to reach their full potential.

Through this important work, our students develop a strong intellectual curiosity and a love for learning; an awareness of their common humanity and compassion to give to society through service. I hope that as you browse our website, life and living in SOS-HGIC will come alive for you.

Thank you

Titi Ofei
