SOS-HGIC National Day 2022

SOS-HGIC National Day 2022

Celebrating different cultures at SOS – HGIC,  a school with students from all over Africa, is a wonderful way to foster a sense of community, diversity, and inclusivity. It is also a fun and educational opportunity for students to learn about and appreciate the unique traditions, customs, and histories of their classmates.

Every semester, the school celebrates National Day; a fantastic opportunity for international students to celebrate their home nations. Burundi, China, Kenya, Liberia, Nigeria, Rwanda, and Uganda were acknowledged in November under the theme “My culture, my identity.” Students from these countries with their peers prepared different delicacies from their home countries and also shared their culture with the entire school through presentations after intensive rehearsals.

On National Day,  staff and students enjoyed various activities from the presenting countries during lunch. Our Chinese students shared their language, an aspect of their culture, with the entire school community by preparing slides and delivering a tremendously interactive presentation in which the Chinese language was taught. Representatives from Nigeria, on the other hand, produced a play in which they portrayed their identity across time by comparing pre-colonial Nigeria to modern-day Nigeria. They concluded their presentation with a cultural dance that everyone in the school enjoyed. Liberia, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda and Burundi all performed exquisite cultural dances that were loved by all.

National day was a rewarding and enriching experience for everyone involved. By fostering a sense of understanding and appreciation for the diverse backgrounds of their classmates, students learned how to value and respect one another, and create a more inclusive and harmonious school community.
