At SOS - HGIC we engage in an array of exchange programs designed to bring young people together in a spirit of intercultural understanding and respect and to enhance social and communication skills. Our exchange programs emphasize collaboration, community involvement, and a sense of adventure. We encourage our students to be risk-takers, explore the diversity of our world, and develop the skills necessary to take on the challenges of today’s and tomorrow’s world. On the 13th of September we celebrated Ethiopia’s new year “Enkutatash.” The word Enkutatash is heavy with symbolism as it not only means the ‘gift of jewels’ but also represents the end of the rainy season. We are excited to announce the launch of our new Modern Languages Laboratory located at the Hermann Gmeiner Block. The modern languages lab will serve as a focal point and a beneficial resource center for student learning and information sharing about language-related issues and opportunities. During the first week of school in our  academic year (15th - 19th August 2022), the incoming DP1 and MYP4 students went through an orientation program in preparation for life in SOS-HGIC and the 2022/2023 Academic year. Wellness Day was created to introduce both students and staff to the concept of mindfulness to the SOS-HGIC community, and teach effective coping skills that we can use to alleviate the stresses of daily life. We were joined by Nana Amoako-Anin of Bliss Yoga Accra, who shared stories about her mindfulness journey in a talk titled “While You Keep Doing Your Best, Take A Long, Great Exhale", and led the community in exercises over the course of the day. Through mindful meditation and mindful breathing exercises, as well as a gratitude circle and journaling hub, students and staff were given the opportunity

As the popular saying goes “All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy”. Leading up to "International Workers' Day," staff at SOS-HGIC commemorated the day by organising our ‘’Staff Dress up Day 2022’’ in which staff members dressed up in a different profession of their choice. The event was spiced up with several activities such as a dancing competition and a costume exhibition. Prizes were awarded to the best dressed staff and the best dressed department.
